The Things I Carry: Bambaw Bamboo Cutlery Set

Bamboo is awesome.

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been striving to live a greener and more minimal lifestyle. One of the greatest ways to go down towards that path is investing in bamboo products. There are plenty out there such as toothbrushes, razors, and even stockings that are made out of bamboo (or mostly bamboo) which are better alternatives to what’s out there.

Being ‘green’ also means living by the five R’s which are as follows:

  1. Refuse

  2. Reduce

  3. Reuse

  4. Recycle

  5. Rot

What my Bambaw Bamboo Cutlery set allows me to do is refuse and reuse. I can refuse any plastic cutlery that business give out like candy whenever I go out and I can reuse them time and time again. The best part is that it all comes in a handy dandy carrying case that is small and lightweight to fit in the majority of my bags and purses.

What I love about Bambaw Bamboo Cutlery Set

  • It’s cheap- I purchased it on Amazon and it was a small investment to jumpstart my lifestyle.

  • It’s different- Whenever I pull it out of my bag, it turns a lot of heads. While some may find the attention off-putting, I absolutely love it and enjoy how it starts the conversation on living a greener life.

  • The case- I’m really forgetful, so having a case that I could put my cutlery in is really awesome. It keeps everything together, looks professional, and makes it portable.

  • The straw- The cutlery set comes with a straw, which also reduces my plastic straw usage whenever I’m out and about.

  • It’s a great company- Bambaw is a company with a great mission which is, “to reduce the waste generated on earth by providing affordable, quality, zero-waste products”. They also have great customer service and reply quickly and efficiently to email.

  • It’s natural- The cutlery is made out of bamboo which means that it can be composted. So it’s a more natural product than any plastic cutlery (or silver for that matter!)

What doesn’t work about Bambaw Bamboo Cutlery

  • Cleaning the knife- The knife works really well to cut. However this makes it a literal double-edged sword since cleaning between the ridges of the bamboo knife can be difficult (and hurt).

  • Cleaning the straw- The cutlery set comes with a cleaning brush. It does take a while to get used to and sometimes may feel like it gets ‘stuck’ in the straw while cleaning.

Other Thoughts about bambaw bamboo cutlery

I mentioned earlier how great the customer service was with Bambaw. When I initially received my set, I wanted to get a set of instructions on taking care of my cutlery set. After all it was one of my first steps towards being green, so I was not familiar with any ‘special needs’ it had to maintain them. However on their site, I could only find instructions for their Safety Razor. When I reached out to the company to see if they had a set of instructions for their cutlery they were able to respond back quickly.

Not only this, but when I inquired if they had any Spanish manuals they let me know that not only were they working on it, but they’d reach out to me once they were available for download. This was great since I wanted to get a set for my grandmother who is only fluent in Spanish.

Overall, Bambaw’s Bamboo Cutlery is an amazing product. It’s light-weight, portable, and useful product that could help you start your greener lifestyle at a low price. For those of you who want to make a difference, but don’t know how, this is a great first step.

I definitely would recommend this for people who are interested in living a greener lifestyle or who want to give living a ‘zero waste lifestyle’ a chance. The best part is even if you don’t want to go fully green or zero-waste, you will have a great product that makes small but grand changes to the Earth.

If you aren’t into all that stuff, then just know that this cutlery set could help you when restaurants forget to pack plastic utensils when you grab takeout. Keeping this in your car could make you a hero for someone who needs a quick spoon or straw when they didn’t intend on getting a quick bite to eat.

What ‘Green’ products do you recommend?

As someone who is trying to live a ‘greener’ lifestyle, I’d love to know your recommendations. If they are affordable, that’d be greatly appreciated.
